That way you can get in and out of the country without needing a passport, and it’s more secure for your finances.
“It’s the same as a bank account, you can go into it and make payments,” says Andrew Houghton from Melbourne’s Credit and Debit Card Industry Association.
Credit card reader card readers are common in major cities and the likes of Westfield, SBS and Optus all stock them in their stores.
But not all card readers can be used to buy and sell goods online, and there are other methods of getting around the system.
“You could use a mobile phone, but you’ll still have to enter a number into your credit or mobile phone,” says Houghington.
“It just doesn’t work that way.
